A clean sheet for United vs Leicester will make Premier League history, but goals will be scarce

Manchester United travel to Leicester City in the final game of March before the international break.

There have been 140 matches between the two sides with United coming out on top in 73 of them.

Leicester have won 36 and there have been 31 draws between the two sides in all competitions.

Here are three storylines that will whet the appetite before tomorrow evening’s late kick off.

United’s fine recent record versus Leicester

The Red Devils have already beaten Leicester three times this season, in the league, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, all at Old Trafford.

The BBC report that “Leicester City have lost their last three Premier League games against Manchester United without scoring. They had been unbeaten in the previous four meetings.”

United have done well historically in Leicester however as they have lost just one of their last eight Premier League fixtures at the King Power Stadium, a 4-2 defeat in October 2021.

In fact they are on a streak of five consecutive wins against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team.

The Foxes in horrendous form

United have hardly set the world alight domestically this season but their problems pale into insignificance in comparison to Leicester.

“Leicester have lost 12 of their past 13 Premier League games, including their last five without scoring a single goal. They could become only the fifth Premier League team to draw a blank in six successive matches.”

They have also lost their last six Premier League games with an aggregate score of 0-15.

The Foxes could become the first Premier League team to lose seven successive home games without scoring.

Both clubs are shot-shy

Leicester’s struggles in front of goal probably come as no surprise when it is considered that their 251 shots and 85 on target are the lowest totals in the entire league.

United have also struggled in this regard as their average of 13 shots per game this season is their second-lowest on record in a single Premier League campaign since records began in 1997-1998.

To put their struggles in context, leaders Liverpool have scored ten more goals than the two teams combined.

Nonetheless, United have just come off the back of a morale-boosting 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad in the Europa League and will hope to enter the international break with a positive result in the league.

Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
